MEET OTHNIEL

The Person Behind Vine & Vessel

Hi, I'm Othniel. My journey in social work has been shaped by a genuine curiosity about people, the experiences that shape us, the ways we learn to survive difficult seasons, and the process of understanding ourselves more deeply.

I believe meaningful care begins with seeing the person before focusing on the problem. Every person carries a story, and those stories are often more complex than what can be captured by a diagnosis, symptom, or difficult moment.

Vine & Vessel Therapy grew from my vision of creating a space grounded in compassion, curiosity, and intentional care.

Rooted in compassion. Guided by curiosity. Centered on the person.

More Than a Diagnosis

A diagnosis can help us name patterns, understand symptoms, and guide care, but it can never tell the whole story of a person.

I believe there is value in asking not only, “What's wrong?” but also, “What happened? What did you learn to do to survive? And what might you need now?”

A trauma-informed perspective creates space for curiosity. Behaviors, emotions, and coping patterns often make more sense when we understand the experiences and environments in which they developed.

“What if the parts of yourself you've been fighting are the same parts that once learned how to protect you?”

CURIOSITY BEFORE JUDGMENT

MY JOURNEY

Why Social Work?

I was drawn to social work because people are complex. We are shaped by our relationships, environments, experiences, and the ways we learn to navigate the world around us.

What continues to draw me to this work is the opportunity to sit with people in the places where life feels complicated, to ask thoughtful questions, explore patterns with curiosity, and help create space for moments of insight and understanding.

I don't believe my role is to tell someone who they should become. I believe in helping people slow down, look more deeply at their experiences, and begin asking different questions about themselves and their story.

Sometimes, one meaningful question can open a door that advice never could.

The goal is not to have all the answers. Sometimes, healing begins with learning to ask a different question.

BEHIND THE NAME

Why Vine & Vessel?

A name rooted in growth, purpose, and the belief that we are continually being shaped.

The name Vine & Vessel holds personal meaning for me and is quietly rooted in my Christian faith.

The vine represents connection, growth, and the importance of remaining rooted. Growth does not always happen quickly or in a straight line. There are seasons of stretching, pruning, waiting, and becoming.

The vessel represents the ways we are shaped by what we carry and what we have lived through. Our experiences leave an imprint, but I believe being shaped does not mean our story is finished. There is still room for restoration, purpose, and growth.

My faith is part of the foundation that shaped the vision for Vine & Vessel. At the same time, the future practice is envisioned as a space where people of all faith backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences can feel respected and welcomed.

Vine & Vessel is a reminder that healing is not always about erasing the past. Sometimes, it is about understanding what has shaped us, reconnecting with what grounds us, and creating space for what comes next.

ROOTED. SHAPED. STILL GROWING.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Vision Is Still Growing

Vine & Vessel Therapy is a vision I am intentionally building for the future.

As I continue my professional journey toward independent clinical licensure, I am continuing to learn, grow, and deepen the way I understand trauma, healing, and meaningful clinical care.

My hope is to build a practice where evidence-based approaches and genuine human connection can exist together—where people are not reduced to symptoms, and where curiosity, compassion, and collaboration remain at the center of the work.

Vine & Vessel is still growing. And I believe there is meaning in the process of becoming.

There is meaning in the becoming.
